North Beach, despite its name, does not actually have a beach. Since North Beach's original creation in the 1800's San Francisco's shoreline has filled in, creating space between North Beach and the actual beach. This neighborhood is home to the Italian Heritage Parade as well as The North Beach Festival Street Fair, which is one of the nation's oldest street fairs.
